• What are the treads made of?

Our stair treads are Amish American made with solid wood in various species including red and white oak, Brazilian and American cherry, hard maple, hickory, and walnut. Alternative species can be custom ordered including exotic hardwoods.

• Will this system work with my open staircase?

Stair re-facing materials are carefully cut to fit on-site making our standard product line compatible with nearly all types of staircases. During your design consultation, we will identify the correct materials needed for your unique situation. Custom fabrication is simple with manufacturing right here in the USA.

• Can I match my existing flooring?

Our library of stain options complement most flooring colors and styles. We also offer custom stain and finish service to ensure a beautiful transition to your flooring.

• How long does the process take?

In most cases, the installation process takes 1-2 days. Our patented re-facing method eliminates the need to remove the nosing from your old treads. This significantly reduces labor and installation time compared to the traditional methods.

• What about building codes?

Compliance with local building codes keeps your home and family safe. During your design consultation, we will carefully measure and identify the correct tread thickness needed maintain compliance. Our unique system features 3/8” and 5/8” thickness options to ensure the proper stair dimensions.

• Is it expensive?

The cost of your project is driven by the materials chosen and the complexity of your staircase. Our quick installation process and pre-finished material options drastically reduce the labor expense of a traditional stair re-model.

• Will I loose access to the staircase?

Your original staircase remains intact giving you full access to the floor above and below your stairs during installation.

• Can I do this myself?

Stair Fitter expert installation is quick, clean, and guaranteed. However, we are happy to work with homeowners that wish to handle their own installation. Your design consultant will walk you through the project and identify materials needed for your DIY project.

• What about the landing areas and flooring above and below my stairs?

Coordinating your new stairs with existing or new flooring is a critical component to your project. Stair Fitter offers full service flooring product selection and installation.

• What about my handrail, newel post and balusters?

As a full-service stair company, Stair Fitter can handle the complete project. We proudly offer the extensive line of Ideal Stair Parts including custom turnings.

• How durable is the product?

Solid wood stair treads are covered by a lifetime structural warranty. The nosing of NuStair treads is permanently bonded to the tread and designed to stand up to heavy use.

• Where can I see samples?

The Stair Fitter design process begins during your in-home consultation. During our visit, we will review sample material and assist with product selection. Comprehensive sample sets can be shipped to customers outside of our service area. Just call us for information.
